(At home in Port Hope)

I lost my best friend on this day. Trillium (Trillie) was a great dog. She was my buddy. When we got her, she was my only friend at that point in my life. She meant a lot to me and I'll miss her. She was part Brittany Spaniel, part fence-hopper (we always thought her dad was a Husky, from her behavior and markings when she was a puppy). She was a mutt, but one of the best mutts you could ever imagine. She was a member of the family.

(Got a treat?)

She died at about noon. We had to put her to sleep. She was sick (liver problems) for a little over a year now. Cancer, that we didn't even know she had, had spread from her liver to the rest of her organs. The happy, bratty dog I knew as late as yesterday was not there this morning. She just basically stopped being her because of the pain from the cancer. We'll bury her remains at her favorite place, at our property, on the beach, overlooking Lake Huron in Port Hope, MI.

(Cool, snow! MANNA!!)

I finally buried Trillie in April, 2004. I got the closure that was eluding me over the Winter. Sure, she was at home in Port Hope, and the Winter couldn't bother her, but I needed to put her in her final resting place to move on. I did so the weekend after Easter. I was again sad at that moment, as I knew that was the last time I'd ever see a any part of her for a very long time. I burned her toys and buried the ashes with her so she could have something to lie in that was her's at one point in time. The sadness passed as soon as I finished, though, as she was finally at rest for all eternity.

Rest in peace, Trillie.
